All settled in!

When Rick and I walked into my Dad's new residence for the upcoming months, he looked right at us and said "hi". There were many things my Dad did today that tells me, w/out a doubt, that he is the same old Kraig and that he understands everything. I think he finds it comfortable there. He's got a nice sunny room all to himself, a fan and NESN comes in on the t.v. -- what more can a guy ask for?

In all seriousness though--we think it seems like a fabulous place. His nurse had a talk w/ all of us, my Dad included, and said his nurses will wear regular clothes b/c it is important for him to see that he is not sick anymore, this is not a hospital. She said therapy is going to be long and grueling---it goes 8-4 Monday thru Friday (obviously there are rest periods in there) with weekends off. They encourage family members to be present during therapy. At the end of her speech she said to my Dad "are you ready to get busy?" he answered her by smacking his hand on his pillow as if to say "damn right I'm ready". Tomorrow a.m. bright and early he will put on his t shirt, shorts and sneakers (w/ help, of course, for now) and get busy getting busy!

  4. OK, I am all teary again...when you said he responded to the nurse by hitting the pillow, that shows me his spirit and drive to get this all behind him!! It is hard to imagine thinking rehab is a happy time in anyone's life but that he has gotten here so quickly, has his faculties intact and is ready to roll...just wonderful! It reminds me of my sister...she reveled in having proven the drs. all wrong. You will all talk about this time in your lives for a very long time! Kraig is a winner!! I couldn't be happier for you all than at this very moment!
Peace and prayers L.R. PS. Thank you Lisa for keeping us close in mind and writng this all!

  7. "Hi!" That greeting from Kraig must have put a smile on your face and a spring in your step, Lisa! I'm glad to hear that Kraig is residing in a nearby, exceptional "not a hospital." Please know that all of you are being remembered in prayer!

  10. I haven't checked the blog in a few days. I am so glad to hear this great news! God is so good! I still think of you and your family alot. Kraig, you are so blessed to have such a close and loving family. I am sure that had a lot to do with your recovery along with all the prayers that have been sent up for you. I know I will never meet any of you here on earth but someday we will meet in heaven and recognize each other. God bless you all.

  11. Just catching up and SOOOOO HAPPY to hear the news! What a long road it's been, but your patience, love, faith (yes, I know it's always there even on the angry days) are paying off. I know your dad deserves a lot of the credit, of course, but you and your family give him reason to go on...and you have reminded him of his reasons each and every time you sat by his bedside talking, praying, showing him, holding his hand. Way to go! You are such an unbelieveable woman - and an incredible daughter. I don't know if he's been able yet, but I am sure he can't wait to tell you how proud he is and how grateful. Keep on keeping on! Love you!
